Labour Day Long Weekend in Canmore

We escaped to Canmore for the Labour Day long weekend. And although we didn’t make it to the annual Highland Games, we enjoyed fabulous weather, long bike rides, a couple of short walks and a hike.

Some of the highlights…

A beautiful double rainbow arced across the valley late Friday afternoon. Grotto Mountain served as a dramatic backdrop for ROYGBIV (x2).

The Bow River was carrying a lot of sediment this weekend, so it was a beautiful, milky turquoise. The sky was vibrantly blue on both Saturday and Sunday. We rode more than 20 km each day, searching out a few geocaches in town, stopping at some of the local shops and getting our daily dose of exercise.

Sunday morning we went on a short walk to the largest waterfall along the Three Sisters Creek. We were surprised by the additional erosion and damage all along the channel over the past three weeks. There must have been a heavy rainfall in the last half of August. Another section of the 100+ year-old, coal mining era dam on the creek is washed away. And the route of the waterfall changed yet again.

Watch for a separate post (including lots more photos) describing our hike to the unfinished/abandoned tea house on Mount Lady MacDonald. ETA? Within 48 hours…

Did you find time for a dose of nature over the long weekend?
