Calypso Orchids in Snow

It started snowing Canmore around 8 o’clock Saturday morning. Yes, this past Saturday – the 9th of June! About 8 hours later, with about 5 – 6 cm (about 3 inches) of snow on the ground, the feather-sized flakes stopped falling and the sun came out. We took advantage of the break in the weather to go for a walk along a section of the Highline Trail up to the old miners’ dam on Three Sisters Creek. Three weeks ago we spotted 7 or 8 patches of Calypso Orchids along this trail, but we found only one this time around…
