We spotted thousands of Yellow Mountain Avens along the banks of Three Sisters Creek this morning. This member of the rose family prefers rocky habitats at low elevation valleys in the Canadian Rockies. There are probably very few days each year when it’s possible to spot the flower in bloom, the distinctive twisted plume (a la Dr. Seuss) that characterizes the transition stage, and the silky sphere that emerges when the flower has gone to seed.
